After players traveling to the Euros received their updates ahead of the tournament, Transfermarkt now proceeds with their usual end-of-the-season market value updates. The first top-five league to receive a full update is Italy's Serie A, where champion Inter Milan, in particular, saw their squad value improve.

While Romelu Lukaku (market value: €100m) secures his status as the league's most valuable player—he received a new value as part of the Euro 2020 update—his teammate Lautaro Martínez is now firmly in second place with a plus of €10 million to now €80 million. Only Bayern's Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller (together 52 goals), as well as Barça's Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezman (43), scored more goals than the Nerazzurri duo this season (together 41 goals).

"Lautaro Martínez and Lukaku are one of the most complete attacking duos out there," Area Manager Transfermarkt.it Jatin Dietl said. "Aged 23, he is still developing and, therefore, returns to his highest market value." Martínez was downgraded in April 2020 as part of the COVID-19 market value update.

Teammate Achraf Hakimi is also up by €10 million. "After some problems at the start, the 22-year-old adapted to the more defensive-oriented Italian football without actually losing his attacking strengths," Dietl said. "Almost no right-back in the world of football has his sort of attacking dynamic. No surprise clubs like PSG are interested, and Hakimi earned his €60 million market value." Like Martínez, the Maroccan is now back to his pre-COVID-19 market value, which he earned while playing for Borussia Dortmund. Among all right-backs, only Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold (€75m) has a higher market value than Hakimi.

The champions aside, the most upgrades happened at AC Milan where Franck Kessié (+€5m to €55m) and Fikayo Tomori (+€8m to €28m) receive upgrades. At CFC Genoa, attacking talent Gianluca Scamacca went up by €7 million to now €15, and at Fiorentina, Dusan Vlahović is among the biggest winners in the league.

"The 17 goals scored make the Serbian, together with Haaland, the best U23 striker in any of Europe's top 5 leagues and one of the biggest winners of the second half of the season," Dietl said. "Ahead of the season, he was considered a bit of a raw diamond. Should Fiorentina be able to keep him, then the fans of the Gennaro Gattuso coached club can hope for an excellent 2021/22 season." Vlahović went up by €15 million and, with a market value of €40 million, is now the most valuable player at the Tuscany-based club.

Juventus lose €42m - Dybala at the lowest level in four years

Former serial champions Juventus, in the meantime, saw several of their top stars downgraded. The Bianconeri lost €43 million in squad value—with a squad value of €600.6 million, the club is no longer the most valuable in Italy as Inter Milan rose to €648.7 million. Alongside Arthur (-€10m to €40m), Alex Sandro (-€8m to €20m) and Rodrigo Bentancur (-€5m to €35m), Paulo Dybala also significantly dropped.

"Dybala had a season to forget," Dietl said. "Already out of form, the Argentine struggled with several injuries and could never show his class over several games. Almost 28, consistency remains his biggest enemy. But Dybala had his best time under Allegri, the coming season, especially since his contract runs up in 2022 will be decisive." The attacking midfielder sees his market value drop by €10 million to now €50 million—his lowest since 2017.

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees. The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
